If you are starting, or trying, to grow your e-commerce business then you most likely already know how hard it can be to compete with competition in your marketplace. Unless you are in a super defined niche that many people aren’t tapping into, then you know how crowded the market can become.
I am going to cover the basics of running and growing a successful online e-commerce business so that you can walk away with some tips to put into immediate action within your own startup.
1. Know Your Products
It is extremely important that you have a good understanding of the products that you are selling. This will help you out so that you can promote and market them properly. By understanding the products that you sell, you can know the strengths and points to show off in front of potential customers.
Let’s take for example that you are selling different types of teas. It would be important to understand that herbal teas are usually sold to people that are looking for caffeine-free tea types. By knowing this, you can rework your marketing efforts when you are selling your herbal teas online.
This is just an example, but the basic fact is that you should understand what your products are all about and the markets that they revolve around.
2. Gain Credibility Through Blogging
Blogging and posting articles of information gives you credibility in the space that you are pursuing. People will be more apt to trust your e-commerce store if they see that you know what you are talking about.
Back to the online tea store idea: you could post articles about the benefits of tea, or maybe even about the different processes for steeping your tea. If you are selling protein supplements, you could go over the benefits of taking in extra protein throughout your day, especially if you are an athlete.
All of these things are very simple to do and it is important to have a full time blog on your e-commerce website.
3. Create A Professional Website
If your website is unprofessional, then nothing can save the amount of sales that you can potentially lose from appearing untrustworthy. You want your website to run quick and look professional on all types of browsers and devices.
At PopLight Design, we offer e-commerce services that are affordable. If you are interested in having a new website built for your business, then click here and fill out the contact form at the top of the page.
You could always do your own work with a site like Shopify or Squarespace, but you ultimately are better off leaving it in the hands of a professional web developer if you can afford it. Plus, it is probably a lot cheaper than you think it is. The impact that it has on your sales is worth it enough.
Hands down: Make sure that your website is fast, professional, and easy-to-use for your customers.
4. Product Content
Your product descriptions, images, etc. should all read well and look good. Use high quality images so that your users can click and zoom in on the content on your website. People like to look closely at products they are going to buy. If you don’t have enough money to afford a web developer, there are plenty of plugins that you can use, depending on the platform that you have chosen for your website.
If you combine the tactics above and follow through with continuous updates to your website, then you success is inevitable. I highly encourage that you keep up with a positive presence on 1 or 2 social networks as well. If you can’t be dominant on many networks, stick with just 1 or 2 until you master them.
